Chapter 7: Journey (Route Mumbai -> Panvel -> Alibaug -> Murud)

Journey (Route Mumbai -> Panvel -> Alibaug -> Murud)
It took us a good amount of time in adjusting our belongings in the sumo and who will sit where. Yogesh was adamant in sitting next to Driver and so was i....however it later dawned upon us that 2 guys with average built like me and Yogi cannot sit near the driver's seat. So i went back to sit in the middle... in between, Sandesh and Pawan. And my place was taken by our petite friend Krishnendra.....aka Krish. So the sitting arrangement was like this :-

Front seats
Yogi and Krish

Middle seats
Sandesh, Myself and Pawan

Rear seats
Tayade and Sunil

When we actually sat we realized that this is the maximum no of people that can accomodate in sumo with luggage. So, ironically, we thanked all those who did not show up for our picnic. So, in all we were 8 people, including Driver - Prasad a good friend of Sandesh.

We left Vashi towards Panvel at around 8.15pm or 8.30 pm, in between we played the music CD cut by Sandesh with the help of another office colleague Mohan Cheema. Out of all the songs, that we played, the ones i had copied were enjoyed by one and all, and for the songs Mohan Cheema had copied only 20% were good for other 80% we could only...curse Mohan.

One thing i would like to point out, Sandesh informed everyone and was literally convincing everyone to wear caps and goggles to avoid dust in our route that can damage the hair and eyes. But everyone turned a deaf ear to him. Poor sandesh, he was the only person in the end to wear cap and goggles and that too .... at night!

Yogesh and Krish who were sitting in the front were not talking to each other but concentrating on the route it seems. May be their frequency was not matched yet! :) We were addressing Yogesh as "Uncle" since he was semi bald ... i mean he still is semi bald. Initially he was in charge of playing the songs from the CD. He had the remote...but for some reasons he was emotional, and was more interested in slow songs...therefore i took the remote from him, and played only those tracks that were meant for picnic.

In the mean time, driver was getting uncomfortable, in shifting the gears, since the kind of road we were going to come across needed quick shift of gears, and Krish's legs were not giving as much room as required for changing the gears. Therefore, at Panvel, we halted at P.K. Wines to get our drinks, and at that time it was decided, that Krish will join Tayade and Sunil in the Back seat. Now Yogesh was alone and probably happy, so also Krish, since now he got closer to Tayade whom he loved as much as his dog in Itawah! :) ... lolz ! in between the route once even the cigaratte's burning end fell on our seat, in between pawan and myself, i was not knowing what happened, but, i was feeling something pricking or slightly burning, close to my butt. It was only when pawan, pointed out "abey.....mote ne jalti cigarette yahan par daal di hai!....abey omkar uth! "....i shouted, "Tayade, saale kamine itni chadh gayi kya tereko!" .....all were laughing including Tayade and me!

The guys, got some beer cans "Kingfisher Drought" and "Romanov Vodka" bottle. In the meantime, Yogesh, myself and Prasad were in Sumo, and we got an sms from Kajal who was still in touch with us. We gave her an update, and resumed our Journey. The cans were opened and Tayade lighted a cigarette. And after that within few minutes, Tayade, Sandesh and Pawan started hanging over. The Beer was showing its effect, Tayade and Sandesh were talking and laughing irrelavantely since they were loosing their senses, intermittently! Pawan was quiet in good control, so also Sunil and Krish. Only myself and Yogesh did not indulge in boozing at that point of time.

Next we halted, at a petrol pump and refilled diesel worth 500 Rs. Sandesh and Pawan got down from the Sumo, since "SMOKING is NOT ALLOWED" at pertol pump. The trio, was getting nearly close to high. But Sunil and Krish were not that close. Whenever, we were close to any check naka ...we had to lower the volume of our deck speakers which were blarring high. Sandesh took a very good care of this.

We were getting close to Alibaug, but we were hungry a lot! So we halted at a dhabba like hotel, run by Maharashtrian Christian whose english was better than any one of us. ....lolz ! We ordered so many things, that i cannot recollect, majority of them were chinese rice items.....oh ...yes....i remember one though...."Chicken lolipop!" and the food was Clean, Fresh, hot, spicy and delicious. While we were eating, we noticed, his son was eating an ice-cream in a cone. But he was feeling so sleepy that with eyes closed he was trying to eat the ice-cream some how. His video will be uploaded soon.

We ate and ate and ate so much...that our bellies were about to burst!...burrp! it was 11.30-45 pm we got back into the sumo, now the position changed a bit, i went back to the rear seat, and sunil came forward. We all noticed that till now, Sunil was quiet! ...we were afraid if he is really enjoying?...so we asked him "Kay sunil, awaaz nahi yet tuza!", to which he replied "aree.......aapala spot yeu de ...maag baagha kiti awaaz kadto!" ......and before he could complete this sentence, Yogesh's favorite song was played in which Javed Akhtar speaks something, for me it was boring, but everyone was fucking enjoying the song. With full stomach, i was feeling sleepy, our route was getting darker and lonelier, with only dogs blocking our way. Yogesh even growled at one of them, and he started following our sumo to get even with Yogi. ;)

...the road was not ending ....at one point of time, i thought we are going round and round in circles since every sharp turn had Temple on left side and a house on right side. I was scared! I asked Prasad, but someone told me that, only a witch can do some such thing with us at night....it was 12.05 am now and we still did not reach, Murud, we were confused, since all the routes looked similar, finally we met a policemen and he showed us the right route. Finally we reached Murud, and now we were looking for "APNA GHAR" ...the first difficult thing about this was....we were searching for map given by Faiq Faoujdar since all our bags were similar. We halted for a moment near one hotel, and person was getting out of his qualis. He was huge. His frame was strong. Therefore, initially only Pawan dared to go and ask him. He heard the name for the first time "APNA GHAR? ....kay re ? aaplya kade navin khup hotela ughadli re!...actually mi pan Mumbai cha ahe.....pan mi Itech asto! aann.....tumhi straaaaaaaiight (he took a brief pause...and then....) right la jaa.." and when he said this his hand was only straight, ....right or left he did not show with hand....so we were confused again, ...therefore we went ahead, and asked a young guy on bike he said "Follow me!" and he was behind our Sumo. ...ha ha ha ....he showed his hand where we must go ahead, and then he quickly took a turn to left and sped away, we saw him closely, there was a gal on his bike almost of his age, and trying to hide her face.

Soon we reached "APNA GHAR", our driver gave a honk, and out came another huge figure, it was non other but Mr. Faiq Faoujdar, ...it was almost 1.00 am, he did not argue or complain since we were too late. He asked the helper guy, to show us the room on top floor, and ....

Chapter 6: The Ball factor...

The Ball factor...
At evening, we left the office at 6.40 pm from Mahape and made our stay at Swapnil Tayade's room. Yogesh went to his home to collect the bag. Myself, and Sandesh, went ahead, for small shopping, chakna and things to play. So we bought some "bhujia", "potatoes chips", "playing cards" and "one soft ball" not as small as cricket ball and not as big as foot ball either....it was worth 75 Rs.!.....Gosh!....75 Bucks? a ball worth 75?

All the picnic members ....we call each other "Zolers" ....started abusing and cursing...in this case Yogesh was on forefront

Tayade:- "Kya ch%$#ya hai kya re...? pacchatar ka ball?"
Yogesh:- "Bh%$#ke....kabhi zindagi mai itna mehenga ball kharida tha kya?...maine aaj tak life mai jitne ball kharide honge unka collective cost bhi utna nahi hoga!"
Krish:- "Pacchatar ka ?...haa ha ha....tum logon ko fasaya!"

but we also, retaliated:-
Sandesh:- "Bh#$#d, tumhare Vashi mai Ghanta milta hai!"
Omkar :- "Chayla.....hum logon ko sector 17 tak jaana pada.....wahan pe dhund dhund ke mushkil se ek dukaan milli...jahan par ye ball mila...samjha naa!! Jyaada natak maat kar yogesh!....lekin kya ladkiyan hai yaar sector 17 ki....arey aunty log bhi GORGEOUS hai....Dombivli mai to kuch bhi nahi hai yaar!....sabhi ladkiyaan mereko dekh rahi thi....they were attracted to me!"
Yogesh :- "Chup saale, 75 ka ball kharidega to koi bhi tereko yeda samajh ke hi dekhenge naaa!"
Sandesh:- "Nahi re....Omkar ko nahi......ladkiyan mereko attracted thi...!"
Yogesh :- "Tu to paidaishi yeda hai hi re!...lolz!....kya tayade tune kin logon ko bheja be!....Omkar se to maine bilkul nahi expect kiya.....shiittt !"
Sunil:- "Chayla.....aamchya bhandup la 5 rupayala miltat...yachya peksha changle balls"
Omkar:- "Maag aanaycha naa.....koni adavla tula?"
Sunil:- "Kashala.....tumhi organizer....tumhi baghaych te sagla! ....saangitla asta tar aanala asta naa!"
Omkar:- "Maayla ....organizers chya navane aamchi maara! ... hey kahi barobar nahi !"

.....all started laughing!

And while this argument was going on....Tayade and Pawan were packing stuffs in their bag. Krish was in love with that soft ball...he squeezed it and on and on ....may be he was fantasizing his unfulfilled desires ! ...;) ...just kidding...no offence intended Krish !, and Sunil was busy in watching TV. Tayade emptied the entire water filter into separate bottles, leaving not even a single drop for his other room mates who were not a part of the picnic. ... for which later he got a sound word abuse from his room mates. And then the driver called up, to inform, that he has reached Vashi and has parked the sumo, near Hotel Navratna, sector 17. Soon we all were ready, and took a group photo before leaving for our mission - MISSION MJN!

Chapter 5: The countdown started...

Count down started...
The days were approaching....Yogesh repeatedly asked me to convince gaurav goel to come to picnic...i felt so bad....since with full faith i invited goel and he rejected my invitation. We even went to the extent of asking the Andhra guys in our company...who actually thought hard ...and hence did not come with us.

Yogesh tried hard a lot, to convince, them....he literally became a salesman....giving them offers....he even went to the extent of offering free invitation to Abhijeet patil....but "hmmmmmmmm...." it was of no help! :(

For Goel, i seriously wanted him to come to the picnic, from the bottom of my heart. Therefore i thought i will take help from gals - Kajal and Sridevi to persuade him. But, later it dawned to me, whatever i was doing was not right! I was unneccessarily dragging two jubliant energetic gals of our company who were not a part of picnic to help us. Apologies to them. Also, thanks for all the mails in helping me persuade Goel. But alas....Goel did not budge ..i cannot compel him...infact i cannot compel anyone...i was not only feeling embaraced, but also bad and sad....i lost hope and faith in him. On his be half like a fool initially i gauranteed everyone that GOEL will come for cock sure....but he screwed me in the end! :(

Lastly on thursday we all started discussing what to bring and what not to bring...etc., we all were very excited! And then Friday 11th April dawned, i shaved a day before, donned the best shirt i had so far...and packed my bag....bag given by company on Diwali...to my surprise, everyone brought their same company's bag with them, and it was difficult, in identifying "kiska bag kidhar hai?"

Our picnic by now had become very famous, we got tremendous support and encouragement from other friends, i would like to mention their names:-
1)Kajal
2)Sridevi
3)Basker (...he did not come but wished us goodwill for our picnic)
4)Barnali (...barnali had been to MJ before, and wished us a lot to njoy MJN and the fort)
5)Raphael
6)Kavita (...she also suggested us some spots and hotels to eat...gracias seniora)

... thank u guys! :)

Chapter 3: Spot Deciding

Spot deciding....
Phew ! it took us hell of a long time to decide spot,. We did a lot of RnD, initially we all planned to go and visit some fort on sahyadris...but, with proper guidance from other friends, we realized that visiting forts on hills in summer is not a good idea. A stranger initially and then a friend, Amit Kulkarni, software engineer himself, guided us a lot in deciding the spot. He is a trekker and professional photographer also. In order to see the expeditions he has made so far, take a look at his site...by clicking here!

So we dropped the plan of hill forts. However, it was by coincidence or not, i donno....but both me and sandesh came up with the plan of Murud Janjira and Nagaon....a PERFECT 2 day picnic...the advantages were two fold, firstly we get to see a FORT in the middle of the sea surrounded by water and secondly, we also get BEACH to enjoy ! ....and now there was a problem, .....if the spot to be decided was MJN, then YOGESH won't come since he has already seen those. We were loosing hopes, since we did not want to loose him from team, not for money or contribution reasons, but for fun reasons, he is the living GOD of humor! ...but i like the spirit within him and faith he had in me and Tayade. ...he later agreed to come to MJN and proved that GAURAV GOEL was wrong.

So we started our R n D sending each other mail after mails and searching for accomodation...initially, no one showed interest .... not even tayade and yogesh...and that gave me a feeling that again this plan will fail like all other plans i made in the past 2 years. I would like to thank my bestest friend Saurabh Sawant who helped me a lot in giving information for the picnic, ...One more friend of mine who had been to murud recently, helped me in getting the information....thanks Ajith Menon. But later on the research got momentum, and this momentum was given by Yogesh and Swapnil,...thank you guys, had it not been for you guys, i still feel this wonderfull picnic would have just been in my dreams and my plans....my personal thanks to you two!

In my research i came across link on wiki mapia and got a site for murud janjira, where accomodation could be made as cheap as 1200 per day exclusive of food, for 8 people. We were thrilled, Tayade and Yogesh took the charge thereon of booking the accomodation ...they got few more numbers and contact information ... out of these for murud we booked "APNA GHAR" a lodging home by Faiq Faoujdar. We did not see or knew about it any where before. And we were initially skeptical of booking APNA GHAR....after a series of phone calls and confirmations, we decided to book APNA GHAR and as a token amount we transferred 20 Rs. electronically
initially. We were waiting for Faiq to confirm if he recieved this amount, but poor guy's mom suffered from heart attack and was hospitalised. Lets hope good for her health....she must be fine now. After a few days we got the confirmation and we transferred another 980 Rs...a total of 1000 Rs. This was required, since Faiq had complete faith in us, and he was going to book accomodation for us in Nagaon. He needed this money to confirm our booking in Nagaon. Without taking any advance for booking at his place, he reserved a room for us ....8 of us! At the end you can get contact information of Mr. Faiq Foujdar

In the mean time, Sandesh all alone, single handedly took the responsibility, of booking transportation. I bow before his confidence, he did this job so smoothly and nicely updating us on regular basis....that i think no one in the picnic has done so except for Tayade.

So, all the main issues were solved, accomodation and travel. only issue left was - MONEY...."PAISA....areee PAISA kaun dega ?" I had a tight schedule and it was difficult for me to collect money, i some how managed to get money(...initially 1500 per head) from Sunil and Krish....who forked out immediately without any hesitation like Ganesh ....an asshole, miser, who after repeatedly asking was not giving the money..."haan deto....are transfer karave lagtil naa.....karto thamb....udya ....haan haan karto!" .... and he never gave the money and at last moment canceled the plan for picnic......F#$K YOU BLUE BLISTERING BARNICLE Ganesh !

It is difficult, to give a detail account of financial transactions...but tentatively it was 15oo per head. Initially we thought, on the spot we will decide the hotel, since we had our sumo booked, so we could roam around anywhere in search of hotels for lodging. But Summer is generally the season, when children have vacations and families go out at beaches for vacation. So we thought, it would be more correct to do booking before hand rather than on the spot.
And believe me, advanced booking helped us a lot. ...right Zolers ?

Chapter 2: Planning

Planning...
I came up with the idea of picnic, with full hearted support from Swapnil Tayade and Sandesh. We started looking out for people who can come along with us...and here is the list of people we asked and thought would come with us:-

Omkar (myself)
Swapnil Tayade
Abhijeet Patil
Krishnendra Singh
Sunil Mahadeshwar
Amar Seth
Yogesh Salunkhe
Sandesh Satam
Prashant Nimbalkar
Ganesh Pathak
Basker Nadar
Gaurav Goel
Pawan Brokar
Sachin Gharge
Gaurav Pandit
Sorabh Sethi

In all we planned out that 16 of us can go for picnic, but the moment we asked, there was an amazing array of responses:-

Abhijeet:- "Chal naa kahin jaaten hai ...tum log decide karo....mai aaunga!"
(...this was initially...and as usual, he will never take any responsibility or help others to work collectively, he only expects from others...that others will do it from him)

Amar:- "Aree...nahi re ...pooblem hai...mereko possible nahi hai yaar! ... meri shaadi hui hai...thoda kaam hota hai!"
(he pronouces "PROBLEM" as "POOBLEM")

Abhijeet:- "hmmmm......hmm....ammm..."
(...wierd isn't it?)

Krish:- "Aaaaaaa.....kidhar jaaeyenge...lekin ladki log nahi chahiye!"
(...when he says "Aaaaaa" it sounds like some old wooden door of some old haunted haveli is opening slowly)

Prashant:- "Baghto....jamla tar last minute la honar re"
(...he is also married ... :) )

Ganesh:- "Chalel naa....chal jaauya ...maala kahi problem nahi...pan kuthe jaanar?"
(...and he says this as fast as possible in Jalgaon accent)

Sunil:- "chal ...mi ready ahe! ....Aaplya company chya conference chya agodar jaaun yeu!"

Yogesh:- "arey boss!....bas kya....all time ready ....kidhar bol.....murud, janjira, alibaug chod ke koi bhi spot bol!"
(since he knew all these places so well, that he could guide us blind-folded....this is what he claims....we can only laugh ...lolz !)

Sandesh:- "Aapan naa...mast beach var jaau!"

Gaurav Goel:- "haan...chal!"

Gaurav Pandit:- "Arey nahi re bava.....problem ahe....vadlana bara nahi....mi weekend la punya la asto!"
(...initially we all thought he is giving this as excuse to not come with us and spend time with his girl friend....but we all are sorry, gaurav and apologies to you.)

Sunil:- "arey......mulin nahi naa yenar picnic laaa?"
(...he was scared when he asked this question)

Sorabh:- "dekhta hun....aann....ek min muze check karne de...ann....nahi re possible nahi hai ...mera exams hai us din!"

Abhijeet:- "aaa....aree mera fix nahi hai.....tum log muze consider maat karo! mai mostly gaaon jaaunga!"
(...observe how he is changing his answers gradually)

Sachin:- "support kaun tera baap karega.....mai nahi aa sakta....sandesh yeto ahe naa ?...maag tula problem kay ...chutiya!!!"

Gaurav Goel:- "Arey omkar, mai nahi aa sakta, mereko do din bore ho jaayega tum logon ke saath....mai frankly tere muuh pe bolta huun!..dekh mai tere peeth peeche kuch nahi bolunga....waise us din bus mai aur yogesh discuss kar rahe the...kahan fas gaye omkar aur tayade ke plan mai yaar? shit! ....but tu ye sab yogesh ko maat bol...usko ye bhi mat bol ke mai naahi aa raha hun! ....aggar tune usko bola ke mai nahi aa raha hun...to woh bhi nahi aayega!...ek din ka hota to mai aata re!....lekin please mai nahi aa sakta!"

Basker:- "nahi re...maat maat....nahi ....aree nahi....abhi to jaa ke aaya mai......nahi to chod woh...mai nahi!"

Yogesh:- "arey bhai log....kya picnic ka update? .... kya plan kiya ?"

Ganesh:- "areee tyacha kay mahite ahe ka....amhala khup kaam ahe re...Bhushan ordel mala.....late hoil mi nahi re yeu shakat!"

so this was sequential responses of the people we asked for picnic,...and later following people dropped out and only few came...here is the list:-

Final members:-
Omkar
Swapnil
Yogesh
Sandesh
Sunil
Krishnendra
Pawan..........he was the only guy who until last minute did not say a word, or replied to mails....but came to the picnic and njoyed to his fullest extent...hats off to you dude!

Drop outs:-
Gaurav Pandit (genuine reason)
Prashant Nimbalkar (excuse)
Amar seth (excuse)
Gaurav Goel (excuse)
Abhijeet patil (a seemingly genuine reason ...but we doubt that it was an excuse!)
Sorabh (genuine reason)
Sachin (genuine reason)
Basker (no comments)
Ganesh (excuse....and that too at the last minute...GANESH That is BAD!!!)

This final member list was finallized only at the last moment before going to picnic.
We did not ask gals on special request from special members... :)

Chapter 1: Murud Janjira Nagaon Picnic

Murud Janjira Nagaon - aka Mission MJN

I call it a mission, since for past two years i have been planning and planning and just planning for picnic or outing in my company with my batch mates.

However, my plans never getting realized. For this i blame it more on the fairer sex....yes the GALS !!!! ...however, look at the irony, when the plan was actually materializing, it was again the fairer sex, that encouraged and helped us, as much as possible from their side, i would like to thank Kajal and Sridevi and Barnali especially for this. Hats off to you ladies!

Now, i will take you, through every single aspect of this picnic ...right from planning, to executing the plan and finishing it off.
